Two found dead in southwest Travis County home, sheriff’s office says

10:20 a.m. update: A sheriff's deputy found the bodies of a man and child with gunshot wounds inside a southwest Travis County home early Monday.

Authorities initially had responded to the home around 5:45 a.m. to check on the residents of the single-story brick home in the Granada Hills subdivision on the 8000 block of El Dorado Drive. The area is near the intersection of U.S. 290 West and FM 1826.

According to Travis County sheriff's office spokeswoman Kristen Dark, the deputy received no answer when he knocked on the door, but found evidence that warranted an emergency search of the home. He entered the home and discovered the bodies, she added.

Investigators said that both victims were shot at least once, but Dark said it was too early to determine the official cause and manner of death.

“The investigation is in its early stages,” she said, adding that the identities of the bodies would be confirmed by the medical examiner’s office.

Dark could not say whether a weapon was found at the scene or who made the initial call to authorities.

She said investigators believe the deaths were an isolated incident and did not indicate a threat to the public.
